GPWW: 7/14/11: Fonce Mizell Tribute and Machinedrum Worldwide Family Mixtape

In this episode, the overall theme of Gilles Peterson’s WorldWide Show is minimalism. He opens the show with an eclectic track from London producer James Blake, proceeding on to play Dego‘s instrumental “The Monarch,” and then giving us a taste of Jill Scott‘s newest album with the neo soul number “Rolling Hills.”

Gilles also pays tribute to the great producer Fonce Mizell, who recently passed away. The tribute segment includes some of Mizell’s work with Bobbi Humphrey, Marvin Gaye, and Taste of Honey. For the weekly Worldwide Family Mixtape Gilles enlists multi-instrumentalist producer Machinedrum to bless us with a varied mix of tunes. Machinedrum is based out of Brooklyn and recently released an LP called Room(s) through indie electronic label Planet Mu.

Mexicans with Guns: “Dame Lo” Video

Dame Lo – Mexicans With Guns from System D-128 on Vimeo.

This is a seriously crazy video, that’s one thing we can say about it for sure. It should- but doesn’t- come with a WARNING, we don’t know if it’s NSFW but it not safe in most ways. Directed by System D-128, it’s a glimpse into the world of Mexicans with Guns, signed to the imprint Innovative Leisure along with Machinedrum, Lazer Sword and Freddie Gibbs.
