Back in September, we posted Nneka’s gripping video for “My Home,” the first single from her latest album, Soul Is Heavy, along with news of the album’s initial release. February 28, 2012 will mark the US release of this incredible work and we are completely juiced to celebrate it once again.
On Soul Is Heavy, the Nigerian singer-songwriter masterfully combines hip hop, reggae, and Afri-pop to paint a sometimes grueling but always honest picture “love, pain, politics and God.” Fans can also look forward to added color from collaborations with Black Thought and Ms. Dynamite on the album.
Above, you will find part one of a four part series taking us behind the scenes for the making of this album. Follow Nneka on the road and in the studio while she and her peers speak on the story of Nneka’s most recent labor of love. Find the rest of the series after the jump!
