New Release: Jaidene Veda – ‘shadowboxing heroes (mixes and monologues)’

You can take the album teaser off repeat now. Jaidene Veda this week released her new album, shadowboxing heroes (mixes and monologues), and simply just draws out the tease. Whew. We’ve got a few clips from the 23-track album for you to hear below.

Her beginning hums on “Open Love Letter” take us straight to Meshell Ndegeocello nostalgia as she then transitions into straight seductress spoken word, tightening her grip on your poor, poor heart. A soothing Ursula Rucker joins on “When” while Jai tickles us further with her backing vocals on the moving downtempo track.

Video: Meshell Ndegecello Speaks on Various Music Icons

BET sat down with the uber talented Meshell Ndegeocello recently for her quick thoughts on music icons she’s worked with and met. Meshell quietly, humbly, and honestly answers her brief takes on Chaka Khan, John Singleton, Queen Latifah, Prince, and Madonna.

This new behind the scenes video shows a look at Meshell Ndegeocello during her recording process for her Nina Simone tribute album, Pour une Âme Souveraine. We love the nostalgic retro treatment to the video, too! The song playing is titled “Suzanne” and is featured on the new album.

Video: Gizmo – “Love Song #3″ (Meshell Ndegeocello Cover)

We met bassist and singer Gizmo last year at HarlemStage when he was part of the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble shredding it up. To our surprise, we recently also found that homeboy is also a singer – and a pretty good one, at that. The 21-year old does a marvelous job above at covering Meshell Ndegeocello’s “Love Song #3.” Quite rad to see a dude singing her parts – it works well. Big kudos to Gizmo.

Gizmo also recently released his Derrick Hodge (Robert Glasper Experiment) produced debut album, Red Balloon, which features a gang of dope artists including Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment / Q-Tip), Jamire Williams, Anna Wise of Sonnymoon, amongst several others.

New Track: Robert Glasper – “Consequences Of Jealousy” ft. Meshell Ndegeocello (Sassy Geemix by Georgia Anne Muldrow)

Pure ecstasy is this new Georgia Anne Muldrow remix of Robert Glasper’s “Consequences of Jealousy” featuring Meshell Ndegeocello. Is this even fair? Or right? Loving the squiggly sway of the new beat and the enchanting sprinkles of Muldrow vocals to compliment the already mesmerizing hum of Meshell’s voice. Feels like we’re being transported to the middle of a sacred dance on another planet.

Below, also stream Pete Rock’s mellowed out remix of the title track, “Black Radio” as well as a breezy hip hop spin on “Afro Blue” with Erykah Badu compliments of 9th Wonder and special guest appearance from Phonte.

All these tracks and others will be featured on Black Radio Recovered – The Remix EP, out next week!
