DJ L.E: The Day [MP3]
Starting with new music from those that used to be known as Quiet Village, C.R.S.T., & James Blake, Gilles will carefully ease you into the mix this week. Later in the show, he dives into jazz with a special ‘Deep End’ mix including Mary Lou Williams, Max Roach, Dewey Redman, Chico Hamilton, Roy Ayers, Stanley Cowell, and more of course. The show was recorded shortly after the terribly sad news of Guru‘s passing. So naturally it includes a big chunk of Gangstarr – represent.
He’s “been quite active of late” on Twitter so follow @GillesPeterson
This week on GPWW, Gilles starts off with Majestik & Steve before he gets into The Head Hunters, Sun Ra, a Grace Jones remix by Mala, Calibre, Benga, Madlib, plus a fantastic live “Poem,” read by Steve Reid at the 2008 WW Awards. Later Kyle Hall, an 18-year old producer from Detroit whose tracks also appear on some recent GPWW tracklists, provides the mix for end of this week’s show.
