New Release: The Bullitts – ‘They Die By Dawn & Other Short Stories’

What’s an album where Jay Electronica makes three features and also has Rosario Dawson singing? The Bullitts new album out today not only features the aforementioned but also includes appearances from Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), Lucy Liu, and Tori Amos.

They Die By Dawn & Other Short Stories sets a strong precedent for any future cowboy film soundtracks. Sounds range from whimsical and slow, disco, rocked out, mashed up hip-hop, and on. Nothing is predictable and everything is wonderful.

This weekend was buzzing all this weekend with exclamatory remarks and photographs of the awesomeness that was the 2012 Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn. We’ve got clips from a couple of the most anticipated and dynamic performances from the weekend. Above, is an energy filled medley by the indomitable Erykah Badu, which includes a special guest appearance from Yasiin Bey (Mos Def). And below is the dynamic miss Janelle Monae breathing life into all with her live performance of “Sincerely Jane.” Oh, and it starts off with a nice little introduction from Pharrell, accented by a crowd of females screaming maniacally.

The ever astute genre bender Robert Glasper will be releasing his forthcoming album with his equally intoxicating band, the Robert Glasper Experiment. Called Black Radio, the project will release on February 28th and includes an all star list of features that frankly is making us feel a little faint.
