Jamie Foxx’s new film, Thunder Soul, is creeping up for release in the next couple weeks and we can’t wait! A bit about the film for those still in the dark:
“Thunder Soul follows the extraordinary alumni from Houston’s storied Kashmere High School Stage Band, who return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for the 92-year-old “Prof,” their beloved band leader who broke the color barrier and transformed the school’s struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse in the early 1970s.”
In the last couple months, reviews have been popping up about the film and it looks like not only will this film provide some great entertainment value and history, but it will also open up a social discussion about arts education in schools. Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter notes in his review:
“A greater argument for music education in our secondary school curriculum can’t be made than Mark Landsman’s doc about a Texas high school funk band that tore up the music scene from 1968 to 1977.”
Stay tuned for film screenings and release parties in your area!
