RIP Guru

We are saddened by the news of Guru’s death, his career with Gangstarr and Jazzmatazz is an integral part of the legacy and history of Giant Step. “Jazz Thing” was one of the first records we ever played and it became an anthem of our fledgling movement. In ’93, Guru chose Giant Step to first debut his Jazzmatazz project and we had the pleasure of presenting many of Gangstarr’s early New York shows, with many more to come.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones, music has truly lost a pioneer.

More vintage Gangstarr/Jazzmatazz Giant Step flyers after the jump.

Mavis is a collaboration between Ashley Beedle & Darren Morris, a concept born from their mutual love and respect for Mavis Staples, the Staples Singers, and 70′s era Stax records. The tracks are strung together by the airy downtempo production, with various vocalists like Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton, Ed Harcourt, Edwyn Collins, Cerys Matthews and Saint Etienne’s Sarah Cracknell. “Lost Where I Belong” by Andreya Triana

Andreya Triana – Lost Where I Belong from Ninja Tune on Vimeo.
Directed by Daniel Chester and Dave Prosser and produced by Sweetworld.
Live-action directed by Robert Sanderson.

We’re just like you: we get put on to the best new artists, the likes of which we might have never heard, by Gilles Peterson and his magical radio shows. Andreya Triana is one of those artists. Her tracks stand out in the latest GPWW (Worldwide Family Mixtape: Sbtrkt) and we searched to find that Andreya is unsurprisingly a Ninja Tune artist.

This is the first single from her forthcoming debut album, Lost Where I Belong, co-written with Fin Greenall (aka Fink) and produced by Simon Green (aka Bonobo).
