Yael Naim – New Album + Live Shows in NY (5/9) and LA (5/16)

    May 5th, 2011

Thanks to the runaway success of her international hit “New Soul,” Yael Naim’s self-titled 2007 release propelled this French-Israeli singer-songwriter on a yearlong promotional trek around the globe. Naim’s stunning new album, She Was a Boy (which has already surpassed Gold status in France), collects 13 luminous folk-pop gems, each recorded at the singer’s apartment-turned-workshop. Upbeat tunes like “Come Home,” “Stupid Goal” and “Go to the River” will instantly appeal to fans of “New Soul,” though She Was a Boy presents a serious expansion of Naim’s sound as well.

Check out her upcoming appearances in NY and LA - She'll be at Le Poisson Rouge on May 9 in NY, and she'll be at Hotel Cafe on May 16th in LA.

Femi Kuti to Release Africa for Africa + Tour Dates

    March 11th, 2011

In a career spanning over twenty years, Femi Kuti has been able to find his own voice while preserving the memory of his father, Fela Kuti. Following his 2008 album Day By Day and ushering in a more aggressive but pointed style of music, Africa for Africa will be released on March 22nd on Knitting Factory Records. Femi’s offerings on Africa for Africa show that although an heir in the family lineage of Fela, Femi is carving out his own space in the great history of Afrobeat and African Music.  Africa for Africa aims to present Afrobeat in its rough, purest form.  After the jump, get more info and check out Femi's upcoming North American tour dates for April and May.

Les Nubians – New Album Nü Revolution Out April 19th

    February 23rd, 2011

Les Nubians are back with a new album, featuring "Veuillez Veiller Sur Vos Rêves" (Don't Let Your Dreams Fall Asleep) and "Afrodance" (streaming below). The new album, Nü Revolution may be the most impressive representation of Les Nubians' Afropean Soul to date. Featuring special guests ranging from African music legend Manu Dibango, whose "Soul Makossa" crossover classic gets a politically charged make-over, to indie soul icon Eric Roberson, with South African pop stars Freshly Ground, Ghanian-American MC Blitz The Ambassador and Polish MC John Banzaï along for the ride. Somehow, Les Nubians manage to make the blend of so many diverse elements seem logical and organic; it flows quite naturally from their multicultural lives.

Nü Revolution will be released on April 19th on Shanachie Entertainment.
