Salaam Remi & DJ Driis Present CJ: The Package Mixtape

package_cover
Baltimore’s own soul sensation CJ‘s debut album will be out this summer on J Records, but you can get an early preview with The Package mixtape (Mediafire). You may have already heard him singing on Raphael Saadiq‘s Grammy Nominated song “Never Give You Up” from the album The Way I See It. CJ is not only a singer, but a producer and musician as well: check out this video of him riffing on the piano with DJ Driis (Idriis Alba aka The Wire‘s Stringer Bell.)

While CJ wrote and co-produced a great deal of material on his upcoming album, it will also feature collaborations with hit producers and writers like Salaam Remi, Bangladesh, Raphael Saadiq, Rico Love, Dre and Vidal, KP and Malay and Marsha Ambrosius, to name just a few.

Si*Sé “This Love” Crystal Pharoah Remix

On the upcoming Si*Sé Gold EP, singer/DJ Carol C‘s voice evokes a sophisticated sensuality, singing in English and Spanish over producer Cliff Cristofaro‘s post-trip-hop grooves. The band also includes drummer Ryan Farley, bassist Morgan Phillips, percussionist Neil Ochoa and violinist Nicole Arena.

For the single “This Love,” Carol turned to Cristofaro for a “Motown-ish track.” He was ready for the request, pulling out a sweetly spaced rhythm with plenty of room for Carol’s dream-like vocals to fly over: her heartfelt convictions, one which has caused innumerable fans to connect to her with, is in full force here. “I was talking to many different people around the same time,” she says, “and they all seemed to be in search of the perfect love. This song came out of those conversations.”  We also have a remix from The Crystal Pharoah (aka the producer, Cliff Cristofaro), a divine slice of disco cut with trilling string trimmings.

Salvador Santana’s Keyboard City In Stores Now

Music is a burst of choices. Not only what note to play when and with what instrument, but whether to play a note at all. Salvador Santana, the 26-year-old keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter with strong Bay Area roots, knows what it means to navigate the infinite options of music.

Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut, Keyboard City around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana’s writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. The legendary founder of the Wu-Tang Clan rallied support around the album by featuring on the remix of the title track, “Keyboard City.”

In March, Salvador Santana will tour extensively in support of the new album with his keyboard-centric band. Check out the album release party in LA this Thursday, free with RSVP. More tour dates here.
