New Release: Thundercat – ‘The Golden Age of Apocalypse’

Fast rising bassist Thundercat (aka Stephen Bruner) dropped The Golden Age of Apocalypse on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder last week. Verdict: this is some bar raising ish.

The album plays out like a soulful space saga in an underwater basement – there’s drama, there’s romance, a picnic on the moon, and a dance party or three. While undeniably smooth, there is a palpable sense of rawness and even some grit to the work – all in all, makes for a very engaging listen.

Stream the whole album below and be sure to take a listen to our favorites: “Walkin,” “Return to the Journey,” and “For Love I Come.” Another favorite is “Is It Love” featuring guest appearances from Shafiq Husayn and Om’Mas Keith.

New Release: Joss Stone – LP1 + Free MP3 & Videos

Joss Stone‘s first album on her own label, Stone’d Records, is out today! Aptly titlted, LP1 shows Joss taking total creative control; a fresh piano-driven rock sound blends the innate emotive soulfulness of Stone’s vocals with the raw bareness of traditional blues.

The Grammy award-winning singer co-wrote and co-produced the album with super-producer Dave Stewart – not bad at all for the inaugural album on your own label. Congrats to Joss!

In case you missed it, be sure to watch the album video teaser that we posted back in June!

Also, peep Joss’ cute interview about living in a van in the forest on The Late Late Show as well as a live performance on Jay Leno after the jump.
