Yessir. Bobby Womack and Willis Earl Beal will be headlining our SummerStage show this year! Lock June 7 in your calendars, folks!

Above, watch the mini-documentary on Bobby’s process with recording The Bravest Man in the Universe, his first album of original material since 1994. Sit down with Bobby in the studio and hear what’s really good from the man himself. Look out for the album to drop just about a week after the show on June 12!

The once homeless Chicago native Willis Earl Beal taught himself how to make music during an overnight motel job in New Mexico. His debut album, Acousmatic Sorcery, is a result of this period of bare-essentials creativity, which consisted of “a cassette-based karaoke machine and a $20 microphone.” We are so excited to help introduce him to New York City! Definitely do take a looksee at his new video for “Monotony” after the jump.

Video: Electric Wire Hustle – “Again” + European Tour Dates

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/aDn_PW8gFbA" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Many of you probably remember being as ecstatic as we were when you first heard Electric Wire Hustle, probably sometime last year. A couple days ago, they returned with a video for “Again” off their debut album. Filmed as a time lapse in New York City’s Time Square, director Vibol Moeung attributes the inspiration behind the video to the first lines of the song, “I have no sense of time.” He found Times Square an ideal place to create a “uniquely overwhelming visual cacophony of lights, billboards, people, traffic & movement…as if being in a hallucinogenic dream-like state.”

We are also super geeked to hear that the group is steady at work on their sophomore album, which should be ready for release in early 2012.

Watch NY77: The Coolest Year In Hell

New York City was a different place in 1977. The whole word has changed, but the city during that time had a very particular chaotic rhythm to it: “Punk, disco, hip hop, the blackout, Son of Sam, Tony Manero, CBGB, Studio 54, Max’s Kansas City, Show World, Paradise Garage, cocaine, polyester and leather” [via Dangerous Minds].  This 2007 TV documentary reflects that time and place with great authenticity by including some of the real players of the time.

The full movie is here on Youtube in its entirety – so full-screen this, sit back and remember the days.
