Exclusive Release: ‘Sonic Boom Vol. 4′ (Compiled by Maiya Norton)

In partnership with Giant Step, resident compilation master Maiya Norton today serves the world up with the long-awaited Sonic Boom Vol. 4!

Vol. 4 features lots of go-to indie faves, including Iman Omari, MoRuf, BOSCO, Muhsinah, THEESatisfaction, Def Sound, Nikko Gray, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, and Coultrain.

We’ve also got up-and-comers like Mndsgn, Jessica Newry, Shi Wisdom, Kalani Trinidad, JusMoni, Joya Mooi, and Byron The Aquarius showing us what they’re workin with.

Stand outs include spine-tingling opener “Prayed For” by Iman Omari, the breathy and sensual “Slippin” by BOSCO, the deliciously layered and melodic “Queen County” by THEESatisfaction, the soft and lulling “Beyond of You” by Joya Mooi, and the groovy “All In” by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

While much of the collection showcases dug up gems and lesser known tracks, we are also proud to have Sonic Boom Vol. 4 be the place Muhsinah premiered the spirited “L.M.O.” (Giant Step Mix), a version of “Let Me Out” off her upcoming March album, Amazing.

Hit play already, and make your week that much better.

Sir Def Sound is back with a new video featuring the awesome Nikko Gray and production by the wicked Brook D’Leau of J*Davey. The dissonant, lilting tune is a boozy mash of swirling sounds and is served up in a room of black and white eye-centric photographs.

Def’s upcoming project, △nything: thee.idea.machine., to drop soon!

New Track: J*Davey – “Queen of Wonderland” (The Log.Os HeMix) + MP3

Late last month, one of our fave trippy duos, J*Davey released their New Designer Drug project. “Queen of Wonderland” is definitely our favorite single from the album and today we get to share a truly otherworldly remix.

Called “The Log.Os HeMix,” the track is more of a reinterpretation of the original track by LA producer and gallery owner Ken Barrientos, who hosted a pretty ill performance with Nikko Gray, you might recall. Enjoy the deconstructed digital wonderland that is this new soundscape.

Video: Afta-1 – “HeyeLAND” ft. Nikko Gray

So, uh – guys. We’ve been super duper holding out on y’all. There’s this secret invite only party we’ve been going to for a few months in Jersey (yeah, Jersey) that is all kinds of amazing. Basically, a talented photographer/videographer by the name of Tone (that many New York heads may be familiar with) started a live music series at his loft featuring upcoming talent called Live At The Loft.

For those unable to snag an invite, we’re going to start sharing some of our favorite videos with you. You’ll definitely want to check out the Live At The Loft site for previous performances, which include Chico Mann, Muhsinah, Jesse Boykins III, Full Crate and Mar, Cubic Zirconia, Melo X, and Fresh Daily. Yep. Thank us later.

Without further ado, here’s one of our favorite recent performances featuring Los Angeles’ Afta-1. The gorgeous video perfectly captured the mellow mood and just dropped last night! This is taking us back and making us relive the sexiness in a whole new way. Very much awesome.
