New Track: Def Sound & Nikko Gray – “Lunar.Sun.Light”

Oh, how we heart the collaboration between Def Sound and Nikko Gray. “Lunar.Sun.Light” is that left field summer boo music you need in your life – we approve. It’s safe to say that we’re a bit twisted up in knots in anticipation of their upcoming album.

It’s a free download, friends!

New Track: Nikko Gray – “Sand”

A few days ago, a mysterious track named “Sand” appeared on Nikko Gray’s Bandcamp page with the artist labeled as ~. Nikko is definitely one of the voices on this entrancing number and we have our hunches about the other – but we’ll let the ambiguity remain as Nikko seems to prefer. The beginning portion of the instrumental has a strong resemblance to something we’ve heard before, we just can’t put our finger on it – either way, we like it! The track is available on Bandcamp with a “name your price” option.

Nikko Gray – Live at the Breath + MP3

Earlier this month, Nikko Gray was invited for a very special live performance at the breath, a boutique label, gallery, and workshop owned by artist Ken Barrientos in LA. Stripped down with a stool as her stage, the low-key and intimate performance allowed people to get close to the whimsical artist through the bare bones of her music itself. Says Nikko, “I was happy to be doing a slower set because I don’t usually perform many of the songs (infact, twas my first time doing ‘Water on the moon’)!”

Video: Nikko Gray – “Rollercoaster”

Nikko Gray – Rollercoaster on Vimeo.

Nikko Gray’s voice is infectious; her tone and style can often be reminiscent of Yukimi Nagano’s, but as you listen closer you always find that this versatile talent is creating a sound uniquely her own. The seductive lady commands a presence as seen in her video for “Rollercoaster,” a single off of her May 2010 EP, Love Seen. Great track and beautiful video with the pastel coloring, soft light, and detailing – Nikko’s camp never fails on bringing it with the aesthetics. On point.

Only Children covers Metronomy’s “Everything Goes My Way” to bring us the very special “Everything.Goes.OUR.Way,” which will be on their forthcoming project, Love.Shaped.Love.Sounds. The duo consists of Def Sound and Nikko Gray, who claim to have birthed a new genre they call trillwave. On this particular track, Nikko’s vocals sound like a yummy blend of Karma Stewart (of PPP fame) and Ragen Fykes of Grillade. Heart. You can also take a listen to their latest single, “Automatic,” below.
