Les Nubians – Live Performance & Interview on NPR

Les Nubians have an upcoming album on Shanachie Records on April 19th, Nü Revolution; if you haven’t already, check out the video for “Veuillez Veiller Sur Vos Rêves” and the streaming audio for “Afrodance.” The Cameroonian/French-based duo recently stopped by NPR’s ‘Tell Me More’ for a live performance and a lovely interview in which we learn more about the concept of Nü Revolution. With all the turmoil in the world right now, the optimism of sisters Célia and Hélène is an essential part of their uplifting music.

“…It’s the evolution of a dream. It’s also the evolution and the revolution, through woman, through Eve. This album is how we materialize our dreams and how we formulate new dreams to create the future.” – Célia

NPR Interview: Lauryn Hill

After years of almost total silence from Lauryn Hill, she finally opened up to NPR about her music, why she left the game, and where she’s headed next. While her classic solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was groundbreaking in part because of her unique ability to sing over hooks she also rapped, she’s focusing now on “opening up [her] range, really sing more.” According to Lauryn, “Most people have never really heard me ‘sing sing sing’… if I do record again, next time perhaps it will be in an expanded context.” And for those have been missing Ms. Hill’s voice, she’s starting to perform again, including the Rock the Bells tour this summer. She told NPR, “I think it’s just time [to perform more], I’m starting to get excited again.”

Tamar-Kali Featuring Jean Grae: “Pearl Remix”

Tamar-Kali was dubbed as “A Punk Artist with a Soul” by NPR. On the other side, Okayplayer defines her more like a Soul artist with an edgy/Punk side. With an impressive front-woman history trailing behind her, Tamar-Kali is releasing her own unclassifiable full-length this summer, called Black Bottom. “Pearl” is the first single, and this remix features a verse by the incredible Jean Grae. (Thanks to OKP for the track).
