NYC: ‘Offline’ with Q-Tip @ Output – July 17

The famed Offline party presented by Q-Tip and powered by Giant Step kicks off as what is now a weekly on July 17! Brooklyn’s Output, hailed by Rolling Stone as a Best New Club in America, will be the new residence and we couldn’t be more excited!

This party isn’t your average shindig, either. Q-Tip shares, “The concept of Offline is a party that brings all elements of New York club culture together with great music, diverse people and no bottle service.”

Giant Step President/CEO Maurice Bernstein adds, “This is the first weekly we have done since the original Giant Step parties over a decade ago, and only Q-Tip could have persuaded me to do it. I’m really excited to see it grow and flourish.”

Pretty epic, if we say so ourselves!

New Release: Pretty Lights – ‘A Color Map of the Sun’ + Album Release Show Tonight in Brooklyn

Colorado-based electronic-music producer, Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, just released a new album titled A Color Map of the Sun. Spanning genres from modern classical and jazz, to ’60s soul and beyond, all with his signature EDM touch, the LP is Pretty Lights’ first album to be offered for commercial sale, as opposed to just free download.

The work showcases 13 tracks comprised of sounds recorded on period instruments (rather than traditional sampling) featuring collaborations with artists such as drummer Adam Deitch, Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno, and Talib Kweli. Smith pressed every recorded minute of over 20 hours of live sessions from Brooklyn’s Studio G and New Orleans’ Piety Street Recording onto 50 full-length vinyl LPs, which he later, “sampled, reconstructed, flipped, and chopped” into A Color Map of the Sun.

Giant Step is presenting the official album release show at Brooklyn’s Output tonight, alongside label-mate Eliot Lipp. Advance tickets are sold out, but limited tickets are available at the door.

Check out a clip from the official making-of documentary on the album below.

Ben UFO Drops Serious Knowledge In 4 Hour Boiler Room Set

Modern day DJ’s DJ and co-founder of Hessle Audio, Ben UFO runs the gamut of musical genres in his latest Boiler Room set from Feb. 20th. From reggae and soul to disco, jacking house, techno, and the newer sounds he’s known for championing, it’s a veritable “old school meets new school” selection with minimal MC chatter. Someone started a tracklist for the trainspotters out there.

Ben will be joined by Pearson Sound and Pangaea for a special Hessle Audio Night in NYC at Brooklyn’s Output on April 18th.
