March 19 will see the release of Elements Of Life - Eclipse, a 2-disc live orchestral album by Louie Vega. The historic Fania Records will be hosting a release party in Miami on the same night, which will feature a performance with the complete Elements of Life band as well as DJ sets from Louie Vega and Joe Claussell. Definitely not a night to miss!

The famed Latin music label Fania Records will be showcasing its music during the 2012 Art Basel weeklong event in Miami. The Armada Fania Club & Pop-Up Store is a four night event slated for PAX Miami and will feature eight top DJs from Miami, Boston and NYC, who will be playing the original and remix sounds the label that is often referred to as the "Motown" of Latin music.   An alternative to the "laser & smoke" events held in the Miami at this time, the Armada Fania will bring together the best components of Latin music, "música para bailar," combined with a Pop-Up store for attendees to buy Fania merchandise ranging from CDs to T-Shirts. In addition to the music, the Armada Fania will feature the LIVE art of Santiago, a New York based pin up/portrait artist.

This is a pretty damn awesome interview with Cut Chemist, detailing the history behind his collection of 35,000+ records. Many of his records live in a converted horse stable in LA, where about 15,000 of the collection resides (many others are at his mama's house, whom he apologizes to). His filing system is bananas and insanely impressive - the man is about his business.

The Chemist shares about his musical baby sitter and how his mother escorted him along his first record digging trip. And how it was like, so way uncool to have moms helping you dig, man.

Folks can also hear the story of "The Big Dig," which was a Brazilian crate digging trip made by Cut Chemist, Madlib, Egon and Babu (Beat Junkies) and J. Rocc.

“We turned that country upside down. We changed the whole infrastructure of their economy just based on how many of us there were. It was like they brought in the army. Here comes the American DJs. It may have been the most amount of records I bought in one trip.”

Some really great moments in hip hop history all throughout this piece. Love love love it!
