New Release: Zo! – ‘Just Visiting Three’

Zo!’s most recent project, Just Visiting Three, is oh so good with its jazzy soul sway. It makes us feel a little fancy, too. In February of this year, The Foreign Exchange invited 40 friends and supporters for a private acoustic show in Durham. Capturing the evening on both audio and video, the duo is releasing the material as a CD/DVD digipak on June 28th entitled Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange. Above, you’ll find a video of the jazzy “Laughing at Your Plans” laced with nothing but the finest from Phonte’s clever songwriting. And there’s more. A few months back on Twitter, Phonte was exclaiming his adoration for KING, the soulful female trio now under the wing of Prince (yes, that Prince). Now, The Foreign Exchange has a track out with them! Below you can stream and download “All the Kisses” featuring Paris and Amber of KING on supporting vocals. Win.

The latest video off their third album, Authenticity, from The Foreign Exchange has left a few fans disturbed, with a much darker story than usual. It might be menacing but it’s still in the style of The Foreign Exchange and it’s just as genuine.

Pharoahe Monch New Video- “Clap (One Day)”

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/VG_iDZbSZ3I" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Pharoahe Monch’s video for “Clap (One Day)” is something of a short film, a ten-minute music video directed by Terrance Nance with additional scoring by The Lion Share Music Group. The stretched story-of-a-music-video format has been popularized by Gaga and Kanye, whose videos tend to lead to very altered realities, always centered on the artist. This video on the other hand, is all too real for entire communities.

The video ‘tackles the subject of police brutality’ and tells the story of ‘a police raid gone horribly wrong’ with the kind of acting and violence which might be banned from television. Watch it for yourself and let us know what you think of this poignant video. If you buy the album W.A.R. on iTunes, this crazy video will be included. W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) is coming out on Duck Down Records on March 22nd. [Pre-order on iTunes]

Another lighter track from the new album came up on Soundcloud this week as well:

Exclusive Track by The Beast: “Come Up, Come Down” + MP3

The Beast & Nnenna Freelon released their jazz-hip-hop hybrid, Freedom Suite, for free download on Okayplayer’s new jazz-inspired channel, The Revivalist, in October. Since then, extra goodies have been released to supplement the Freedom Suite album: the “Freedom Pt 2″ music video, a Phonte freestyle and the non-album track, “Black Fantastic.”

This song “Come Up, Come Down” is more complete than a freestyle, but not quite polished enough to be a final studio track. Not included anywhere on the album, this song showcases the unique composition of The Beast. This full album is available for free on Bandcamp.
