K’NAAN has recently been featured on tracks with Mary J Blige and Mos Def, and is currently touring the US with Wale. Of course Gilles Peterson continues to find new artists from all over the world, and this mix includes everything from Afro-beat on Strut Records and newly reissued Latin music, to Blue Note classics and new albums by Cobblestone Jazz and Paul Weller.

GPWW 3/15/10: Plastic People Mix

As Gilles was in Miami this week having such a great time with us at WMC, this edition of Gilles Peterson Worldwide features no special guests. Instead Gilles plays popular tracks from his sets at the London nightclub Plastic People, which is in danger of being shut down. Highlights include a live version of Bill Withers‘ “Grandma’s Hands,” jazz favorites like Pharoah Sanders and Cal Tjader and new soul like N’Dambi and Menahan Street Band.
