Yesterday, Raashan Ahmad released his video for “In Love with Wax” from his latest album, For What You’ve Lost. The smooth track is an easy listen and the visuals are satisfying – especially those of the dancing vinyl. “In Love with Wax” is a tribute to Raashan’s hip hop heroes as he takes great care to make almost every single line in the song a title of a 90′s hip hop song or 12″ that he has on wax. Impressive!

Raashan Ahmad Presents Soul Power (Not An Album, Not A Mixtape, Not An E.P.)

imageIn the interim between Raashan Ahmad‘s The Push (out now) and his new album coming in the fall on Crown City Rockers, he’s releasing an undefined piece of work, including thirteen original songs recorded earlier this year. Soul Power features Aceyalone, Wafeek from St. Louis, Ragan Fykes, Aima the Dreamer with production from Headnodic, DJ Enki, Woodstock and Kas One.

Some words from Raashan:

“After touring the United States to promote my first solo album The Push, I discovered that I wanted to add more bangin’ songs to my live set. Soul Power is the result. When I I say ‘soul power’, I’m talking about about what gives my soul, my spirit power–which is music!”

esl147smallcover1

Marking a foray into new frontiers of D.C.’s ESL Music, Ancient Astronauts‘ debut We Are To Answer is a melting pot of funk, dub reggae, and pure unadulterated hip hop. Featuring vocal collaborations with Bootie Brown and Imani of legendary hip hop group the Pharcyde, Azeem, Tippa Irie, Bajka, Phat Old Mamas, Ulf Stricker, Raashan Ahmad and Entropik, it’s a block rockin’, boom-bappin’ sonic tour-de-force.

Their very name, Ancient Astronauts, implies a mash-up of the distant past and the far future; traits exemplified in their melding of genres with forward-thinking flair and production technique. The artists behind Switchstance Recordings, Kabanjak and Dogu hail from Cologne, Germany…via outer space! Coy with their true origins, the duo can only confirm that they returned to planet Earth in 2001 after traveling the musical cosmos for thousands of years.
