Gilles Peterson Launches New Show on BBC Radio 6

Saturdays will have a new look starting April 7th, when renowned and much loved presenter Gilles Peterson launches a new Saturday show from 3pm-6pm on BBC Radio 6.

Gilles will extend Radio 6’s musical range by stirring up more soul, jazz, hip hop, and dance to the network. He states, “I feel extremely lucky and privileged to be joining BBC Radio 6 Music after 13 years on Radio 1. The level of music appreciation by the presenters and listeners is really exciting for me and I’m sure there’s much I can learn to aid me and continue the journey I’ve been on since my pirate radio days. I feel like I’m coming home before I’ve even been there.”

J Rocc (of The Beat Junkies fame and Stones Throw family) is dropping hot mixes all over, which is nothing new, but now it’s all about his new album Some Cold Rock Stuf. Above is a great video for “Stay Fresh,” shot by Mayer Hawthorne on his iPhone and edited on the flight back to LA. (budget? what’s a budget?) Below, grab another track from the album for download, “Play This Too” and check out J Rocc’s special with Benji B on BBC’s Radio1.

And if you’re the kinda fan that loves rare merch, check here to get even more J Rocc goodies, including ‘mystery discs’ and posters of the artwork by Jeff Jank, the artist responsible for the indie hip-hop label’s distinctive look.

Plan B: “Love Goes Down” Acoustic on BBC Radio 1

Plan B performed an acoustic version of his UK hit “Love Goes Down” for Radio 1, a great take on the original track from his album The Defamation of Strickland Banks (to be released in the US in April 2011). Check out the official music video below:
