GPWW 5/10/10: Gilles Peterson’s Deep End Mix

Starting with new music from those that used to be known as Quiet Village, C.R.S.T., & James Blake, Gilles will carefully ease you into the mix this week. Later in the show, he dives into jazz with a special ‘Deep End’ mix including Mary Lou Williams, Max Roach, Dewey Redman, Chico Hamilton, Roy Ayers, Stanley Cowell, and more of course. The show was recorded shortly after the terribly sad news of Guru‘s passing. So naturally it includes a big chunk of Gangstarr – represent.

GPWW 3/8/10 Worldwide Family Mixtape: Josh Wink

Coming down off the excitement of that World Cup mix, Gilles Peterson still has to wait a while before the first match in June. Back to the groove, he’s home from a trip South covering New Zealand and Australia, and he has reliably collected new music all along the way. This week features music from that side of the globe, as well as some recent listens and favorites from his tour, like Scuba, Ramadanman and Michel Cleis. This week GPWW also features a mix from Josh Wink, an innovator from Philadelphia whose musical approach is described as techno meets big-room bop.
