New Release: Terence Blanchard – ‘Magnetic’

 

Grammy Award winner Terence Blanchard today releases Magnetic, his first album since 2009 and what a beautiful melange it is.

The 10-track project features a diversity of sound easily moving between ballad to bop to electronic. Joining him on the record are band members Kendrick Scott, Brice Winston, Fabian Almazan, and Joshua Crumbly. Some marvelous guests grace the album as well, including the legendary Ron Carter as well as Blue Note label-mates Ravi Coltrane and Lionel Loueke.

New Release: David Virelles – ‘Continuum’ + NYC Album Release Party @ Drom – Dec 12

 

Hailed by the New York Times and playing in the esteemed bands of Ravi Coltrane, Chris Potter, and Tomasz Stanko, David Virelles has become a highly sought after young jazz pianist on the rise.

His sophomore album, Continuum, will be released tomorrow. In collaboration with drummer Andrew Cyrille, bassist Ben Street, and Cuban folkloric percussionist/poet Román Díaz, he work pays homage to Cuban culture traversing topics of society, art, and ritual in its journey.

New Release: Ravi Coltrane – ‘Spirit Fiction’

 

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane today releases his newest project, Spirit Fiction, produced by the luminous Joe Lovano. Expect to hear music that is rich, layered, and expressive. Ravi brings versatility and a fresh flavor to each track by utilizing two different bands throughout the album. In the end you have some great summertime jazz – nothing like it.
