Last night, NYC homegrown R&B singer Autre Ne Veut paused and stared out over the crowd, seemingly moved by the sea of fans that had sold-out Santos Party House. After acknowledging his fans he confidently brought down the house, closing his astonishing forty-five minute set with his break out single Counting. It was his biggest show yet, in an exciting week that saw the release of his second album Anxiety on the Mexican Summer’s Software imprint. An album which was immediately given Best New Music status (8.5) by Pitchfork. It’s highly emotional content is coined by the singer’s experimental melodies over heavy 80esque synths and bass productions. If you haven’t heard it yet, you can now stream it on Spotify.

Adriana Evans’ 1997 self-titled debut was critically acclaimed but commercially panned, leaving her disenchanted with the music industry. This led to a seven year hiatus in Evans’ musical career, followed by the limited sophomore release, Nomadic. Nomadic was released on Evans’ independent label to be sold only at shows and on her website… until now. Animatedcartunes is proud to re-issue this hard-to-find classic, now enhanced to include a music video for the lead single “7 Days”. The album draws its inspiration from many genres of music including samba, reggae, rock and hip-hop, with soul firmly rooted at the base.
Georgia Anne Muldrow is a singer, producer, songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, known for her abstract production and writing style. In 2005, she introduced herself to the indie scene with the self-released Worthnothings EP, eventually signed to Stones Throw and began to get attention from artists like Mos Def, SA-RA, and Erykah Badu. These are Georgia Anne Muldrow’s “Early” recordings. She wrote, produced and recorded this lean, ten track album entirely by herself. Seventeen years young with an old soul, Georgia managed to blend the composing acumen of Roy Ayers and J Dilla with the vocal stylings of Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill.
R&B/soul luminary Angie Stone has never shied away from pushing her own limits and the limits of her music. With each new recording, with each next step in her career, she has consistently hit the world with something it didn’t see coming. Her new album, Unexpected, encompasses a diversity of styles and influences that Stone has distilled over the years – rap, R&B, soul, funk and more – and weaves them together in a narrative that addresses life’s ups and downs, but ultimately strikes a redemptive chord.
