We're looking forward to the New York live debut of Sonnymoon, whose album was reviewed and posted here for free download. Joining them will be NERVE, the band formed to back up "drum wizard" Jojo Mayer.
We've known Gerogia Anne Muldrow and her aliases as a staple on the scene for a while, but she's been even more prolific than usual lately. Georgia is appearing as “Jyoti” in her forthcoming Jazz album, Ocotea, paying homage to the late, great Alice Coltrane who gifted her with this name. With encouragement from the sublime Alice Coltrane, an innovative musician in her own right, it's no wonder that Georgia's works have gained so much praise from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Erykah Badu.
From our friends at Mochilla: "Remixing Suite for Ma Dukes is a brave undertaking. Several producers and MCs at first accepted and then declined the job. In the end we think we got the right person. It is with great pleasure on the week of Mothers Day to release this remix. Done while mothering by none other than Georgia Anne Muldrow. This project began as an homage to one mother's love (Ma Dukes) and has now been remixed by another (Georgia Anne Muldrow) with her son Nokware in her lap. Two incredible women, one amazing track. Remixed.
Georgia who has done production for Erykah Badu, Mos Def, and partner Dudley Perkins was an amazing person to watch at work. Her feel is so hers. She seemed so comfortable with the music. She insisted that she didn't want to chop the song but to play along as if she was there in the Orchestra. We wanted her to sing on the track too but her microphone was in the shop for repairs - so on suggestion she sang the vocals into the lavaller tie clip mic that we used to capture sound for the video.
This remix and the two other remixes from Te'Amir (remixing Mulatu Astatke) and Jneiro Jarel (remixing Arthur Verocai) will be available on a Timeless Remixed EP this summer."
Carlos Nino & Miguel Atwood Ferguson - "Untitled/Fantastic" Remix by Georgia Anne Muldrow [MP3]
Tamar-Kali was dubbed as "A Punk Artist with a Soul" by NPR. On the other side, Okayplayer defines her more like a Soul artist with an edgy/Punk side. With an impressive front-woman history trailing behind her, Tamar-Kali is releasing her own unclassifiable full-length this summer, called Black Bottom. "Pearl" is the first single, and this remix features a verse by the incredible Jean Grae. (Thanks to OKP for the track).
Diplo + Sia = Sweet Remix. Sia's full-length album, We Are Born, drops June 22nd. Her current tour dates (The We Meaning You Tour) can be found here, along with more streaming music from the new album.
"Acapella" is the Free Video of the Week over at iTunes so grab it now before it's gone. You can also stream loads of remixes here. Besides those remixes by the likes of Benny Benassi and David Guetta, a lesser-known DJ Replay also made a dope mix to get you hyped up for the new album, Flesh Tone.
