Video: Ilhame – “Still Waiting” ft. Ky-Mani Marley (Bob Marley Cover)

Now based in LA, French-Moroccan vocalist Ilhame (pronounced “Eelum”) has got a very special treat for us Bob Marley lovers out there. “Still Waiting” is her cover of Bob’s “Waiting In Vain,” which also includes an breathtaking guest feature from Ky-Mani Marley.

The gorgeous video above is directed by our good pal Andre Power, and follows the darling Ilhame on a dreamy sequence of her day. Oh, and did we mention that the song is in French and Arabic?!

Look out for Ilhame’s debut album Just Wish It to drop this year – it’s going to feature Nicolay, Shafiq Husayn, T3, and Big Pooh, just to give you a little taste.

If you’ve been anywhere on the internet today, you’d should have easily seen about eleventy-billion posts about our man Robert Glasper and his oh so fancy Experiment’s release of Black Radio. We’re still blinking after seeing the iTunes price of $6.99 – that’s like, basically free.

Yes, the album actually features Erykah Badu, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn, Ledisi, and Meshell Ndegeocello, amongst others. No, we’re not kidding when we say the that Black Radio is top to bottom worthy of a sublime stupor.

After dizzying ourselves from running around in circles of excitement all morning, we have now transitioned to the running man in anticipation of the release show at the Highline Ballroom in NYC tonight. And while you’re hating us in our unabashed show-off, do know that you can also gloat by grabbing tickets to tomorrow’s newly added second release show on Wednesday, February 29th.

Also, hats off to Okayplayer for premiering the video for the title track featuring Yasiin Bey! Check it out above.

Robert Glasper to Release ‘Black Radio’ + Tracklisting

The ever astute genre bender Robert Glasper will be releasing his forthcoming album with his equally intoxicating band, the Robert Glasper Experiment. Called Black Radio, the project will release on February 28th and includes an all star list of features that frankly is making us feel a little faint.

Prepare yourself for an unparalleled mix of jazz, hip hop, R&B and rock, with appearances from Erykah Badu, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Lalah Hathaway, Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra), KING, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Mos Def, Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Stokley Williams (Mint Condition).

Black Radio will be the first full-length album from the Grammy-nominated keyboardist’s dynamic band; saxophonist Casey Benjamin, bassist Derrick Hodge, and drummer Chris Dave have come together show after show and blown away thousands with their ridiculously wondrous performances and now to have something we can take home? We almost can’t take it.

New Release: Thundercat – ‘The Golden Age of Apocalypse’

Fast rising bassist Thundercat (aka Stephen Bruner) dropped The Golden Age of Apocalypse on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder last week. Verdict: this is some bar raising ish.

The album plays out like a soulful space saga in an underwater basement – there’s drama, there’s romance, a picnic on the moon, and a dance party or three. While undeniably smooth, there is a palpable sense of rawness and even some grit to the work – all in all, makes for a very engaging listen.

Stream the whole album below and be sure to take a listen to our favorites: “Walkin,” “Return to the Journey,” and “For Love I Come.” Another favorite is “Is It Love” featuring guest appearances from Shafiq Husayn and Om’Mas Keith.
