Yessir. Bobby Womack and Willis Earl Beal will be headlining our SummerStage show this year! Lock June 7 in your calendars, folks!

Above, watch the mini-documentary on Bobby's process with recording The Bravest Man in the Universe, his first album of original material since 1994. Sit down with Bobby in the studio and hear what's really good from the man himself. Look out for the album to drop just about a week after the show on June 12!

The once homeless Chicago native Willis Earl Beal taught himself how to make music during an overnight motel job in New Mexico. His debut album, Acousmatic Sorcery, is a result of this period of bare-essentials creativity, which consisted of "a cassette-based karaoke machine and a $20 microphone." We are so excited to help introduce him to New York City! Definitely do take a looksee at his new video for "Monotony" after the jump.

Giant Step Vault: Basement Jaxx Live at SummerStage – Miles Ahead Series from 2001

    December 26th, 2011

Here is a blast from the past. In the summer of 2001 we brought Basement Jaxx to Central Park Summerstage as part of our Miles Ahead music series. They put on a serious show that day with Brazilian carnival dancers and the park was rocking! A few weeks after the show NY was attacked and the World Trade Center destroyed. For us, this event captures that pre-9/11 innocence of the city.

There were trees, there was sun, there was music and gosh darn it was fun! Our annual party in the park is an NYC tradition that we all really look forward to and we want to thank all of you who came out this year to get down with us. Enjoy some photos from the Saturday, June 25th show, courtesy of Seher Sikandar, as we start plotting next year's installment.

    June 23rd, 2011

Summer is finally here and we are ready to rumble! With 6 events over 3 days, Giant Step is taking over New York City this weekend. Featuring performances by Thievery Corporation, Raphael Saadiq, Katy B, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Fitz & The Tantrums, KING, Louie Vega, Pucho Brown & His Latin Soul Brothers, and so many more, whatever you are in the mood for, we got it for you.

Tonight, at Williamsburg Waterfront, Thievery Corporation takes the stage with special guests Raphael Saadiq, Dam-Funk & Master Blazter. Doors open at 5:30pm and show starts at 6:15 come rain or shine.

Tomorrow, Saturday June 25th, Giant Step's annual party at SummerStage, Central Park marks the official start of summer for us featuring Lee Fields & The Expressions, Fitz & The Tantrums, KING, and DJ Rich Medina. Doors open at 3pm, and show starts at 4pm. This is pure fun in the sun, so come out and bring the kids too!

After recouping from all the sun and fun at SummerStage, make your way over to FOUR at YOTEL New York for the SummerStage after-party, and the first event in our YOTEL New York Weekender series (yes more of this goodness to come every month until the end of November). Music will be provided by Louie Vega, and live performances by Anané and Josh Milan, this party kicks off at 10pm and will keep bumping as long as you do. We are keeping the list open until the last possible minute for this event so tell all your friends, and tell them to bring all their friends too!

Sunday Brunch in New York is practically an official institution at this point in the game. As part of our YOTEL Weekender we invite you to make reservations for this all you can eat brunch at Dohyo at YOTEL New York that will feature music by DJ Bobbito Garcia, and live performances by Pucho and His Latin Soul Brothers. After the brunch is over (4pm) head on upstairs to the Terrace at YOTEL to get down to the sounds of Libation with DJ Ian Friday, Manchildblack, and Afro Mosaic Soul.

Just because its Monday doesn't mean the weekend is over. Giant Step and Steve Madden Music want to introduce you to a fresh new face from across the big pond, and we promise it will be worth the outing on a school night. Get ready to meet London's latest dubstep sensation, Katy B, in an intimate stripped down performance with special guest DJ Dhundee behind the DJ booth. Since the event will be at Le Bain, The Standard New York, don't forget to bring your bathing suite.
