New Release: Teresajenee – ‘Electric Yellow’

Hot damn. Yes. Teresajenee is that chick. Hats off to our homie Blackspade for his Facebook raves on this one. The St. Louis producer and vocalists’ album traverses many styles but might center somewhere around soultronic and “discotrap,” as our fair lady puts it on one of our favorite tracks.

Her sound moves from Teedra Moses sassy R&B and ballads on “Ode To October,” “Tahitian Vanilla,” “Eroplane,” and “Tride” to house queen on “Kissing You” to a Jill Scott earthy flow on “Timber” to a new wave Karma Stewart (a la PPP) and Amerie hybrid on “Romeo + Juliet” and man, everything in between. She’s rapping in there, too, mashing up sounds into something we won’t even try to name. This project is too much flavor. Just listen.

UK soul singer Juliette does a fun little cover for Nas’ anthemic “The World Is Yours.” Loving this flip on a classic tune!

The track is part of an album Juliette recently released called The Take Over, Volume 1, which also includes a rad remake of “93 ‘Til Infinity” by the Souls of Mischief that you can hear below! Really digging her vocal style – kind of reminds us of Teedra Moses at points, too.

By Seher Sikandar

Giant Step Contributor, Seher Sikandar interviews soul singer Teedra Moses with a special surprise guest at the mid-way point.

Teedra performed at Yoshi’s SF last week and just before the show I got to catch up with her for a bit backstage. Yes, I asked her about where she’s been and about her upcoming project. But these days I’m really into just asking artists about themselves, their thoughts, their interests – so I hit her with some of my randoms.

Teedra talks about her favorite feeling to personify, a dream besides music, what was the first song to personally touch her, and all kindsa fun ish you probably haven’t heard in another interview.
