Laura Marling, a folky British singer-songwriter, is set to release her third album tomorrow. Called A Creature I Don’t Know, the album is available to stream in full on the NY Times website for another week or so.

Laura’s voice is unforgettable and timeless, offering a rich spirit running through each track. The moods and sounds on the album vary, and traverse beyond just folk, throwing in a little rock, some soul, and just the right amount of pop sensibility. Be sure to stream our favorite tracks, “The Muse,” “Salinas,” and “The Beast.” Below, you’ll can stream another great track from the album (called “Sophia”) right off this post.

Be sure to catch Laura on her US tour kicking off in a few days!

Revive Da Live’s Tribute to G.U.R.U. & Jazzmatazz – 4/21

On April 21st at Le Poisson Rouge (NYC), to celebrate the life and legacy of G.U.R.U. and Jazzmatazz a year after his passing, Revive Music Group is putting together a monumental night of G.U.R.U. music. The show will consist of the bold arrangements of the 18-piece Revive Da Live Big Band, described in the Village Voice as “the city’s most electrifying young lions of jazz,” under the direction of pianist Marc Cary and trumpeter Igmar Thomas. The event will also include special guests, performers, raffles, and more fun.

The Beast (Pierce Freelon) has released this track as his own tribute to G.U.R.U. Grab your free download:

Exclusive Track by The Beast: “Come Up, Come Down” + MP3

The Beast & Nnenna Freelon released their jazz-hip-hop hybrid, Freedom Suite, for free download on Okayplayer’s new jazz-inspired channel, The Revivalist, in October. Since then, extra goodies have been released to supplement the Freedom Suite album: the “Freedom Pt 2″ music video, a Phonte freestyle and the non-album track, “Black Fantastic.”

This song “Come Up, Come Down” is more complete than a freestyle, but not quite polished enough to be a final studio track. Not included anywhere on the album, this song showcases the unique composition of The Beast. This full album is available for free on Bandcamp.
