New Release: PYYRAMIDS – ‘Brightest Darkest Day’

We’ve been going nuts over this duo since the advanced stream dropped last week. PYYRAMIDS is killing it on their Brightest Darkest Day debut album, which you can hear below. The melodic indie music pulls together something evocative The Mynabirds, Nirvana, and The Kills all into one tasty delight.

Watch their video for “Paper Doll” above.

Video: The Mynabirds – “Body of Work”

The Mynabirds frolick out in the forest and hang twin size beds from trees in the new video for “Body of Work.” And quite the festive body of work it is – mirror art projects, dance breakdowns, leaf eating, and just having all out fits of uncontrolled energy.

Adore the creativity with this video – the perspectives, play with light, special effects, and fantasy created are all too enticing. Props to director Avital Tsypin for helping make it all happen.

Lead singer Laura Burhenn goes on to say about the song:

“’Body of Work’ is a reminder of our absolute power to reimagine, redesign, and transform our lives at any given moment into something we enjoy to the utmost, something that’s wholly and fully our own,” says Burhenn. “We are not victims of the past, but artists who can shape it into the most brilliant form imaginable; we are living things, bodies of work to edit.”

Video: The Mynabirds – “Disarm”

Take it to the Oregon woods for the new The Mynabirds video for “Disarm.” The black and white video evokes a strong mood with its gritty contrast, blown out tones, fire flares, blurs and mysterious overlays. The trance it puts you into is certainly disarming to say the least.

New Release: The Mynabirds – ‘Generals’ + Video

Ever since first hearing “Generals” in March, we couldn’t stop gushing about it. Now finally, Nebraska band The Mynabirds release a video to go with the revolutionary minded track.

Yes, we are indeed shimmying and shaking it all over again with this one; The black and white 50s style video is pretty damn killer – these ladies are owning it!

Also this week, The Mynabirds released their politically charged sophomore album called Generals as well. The sound is a potent blend of rock, pop, dance, soul, and some serious percussive force.

New Track: The Mynabirds – “Generals” + MP3

Fronted by singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn, The Mynabirds are a Nebraska based band with enough attitude for the whole town. On the cusp of releasing their sophomore album, Generals on June 5th, The Mynabirds have released their title track to show you exactly how much business they mean.

Aptly naming the album after a Richard Avedon photo entitled “Generals of the Daughters of the American Revolution,” Generals is a concept album, which Burhenn aims to use as a positive vehicle to exercise her political frustration. Sonically, you can look out for tinges of PJ Harvey, Nina Simone, and David Bowie, with percussion heavy tunes borrowing from hip hop and African rhythms, resulting in a soulful brand of rock reminiscent of The Kills.
