Video: Alice Russell – “Heartbreaker”

The lady that always gives you a full body experience with her music, Alice Russell, returns to her original label (Tru Thoughts) to release her upcoming fifth album. Working again with the brilliant producer TM Juke, Alice Russell is definitely going to be slangin’ some tasty treats. The “Heartbreaker” video above serves as the first of many gems to come.

Alice speaks on the track, “It is a broken hearted love song about the end of a relationship,” explains Alice. “it’s about that time when you’re just emotionally exhausted by it all and you are at the stage where you know you just have to let it go, and you are resigned to it all being over.”

Emotion is certainly something Alice’s delivery is never short of. Can’t wait for her new album in early 2013!

Next Step August Winner: Lady C

Super soul goodness thanks to our August Next Step winner! Canadian singer/songwriter Lady C is also a dancer and choreographer internationally recognized for her house dancing and b-girl moves.

In preparation for the release of her debut EP, Lady C recently released a video for “On Your Mind” to give folks a taste of what’s coming. Watch miss C seductively pop and lock her way into your consciousness. Can we steal that jean jacket, by the way?

Also, below we’ve got a couple of our favorite tracks from the lady, “Womankind” and “I Stand Strong.” “Womankind” sounds like the type of the buttery soul you’d hear on Tru Thoughts, a la an Alice Russell vibe – endlessly smooth and sexy. “I Stand Strong” rests upon a Dilla beat and is a song ‘freshly written after a broken heart,’ – the song is haunting and soothing all at once.

In addition to her upcoming solo EP, Lady C and fellow dancer CoFlo Ferreira have teamed up as Social Notation. With Lady C on vocals and CoFlo on production, the duo plans to release an album together. Look out for it!
