New Release: Zaki Ibrahim – ‘Every Opposite’

Looks like our gal Zaki Ibrahim crept up and put out an album not too long ago. This one is called Every Opposite and in all forms is denser, darker, and moodier than her previous works. Heavy African style drums play a constant theme with some tracks even holding a more danceable energy. Listen to the whole project below.

New Release: Emma Shaheen – ‘Heart Cries’ EP

UK based singer-songwriter Emma Shaheen got her start in a nu-jazz band called Today’s Mathematics and in the last few years has been cultivating her solo craft. Citing influences within the realm of Erykah Badu, The Roots, Roberta Flack, Lauryn Hill, and Jeff Buckley, Emma’s vibe is refreshingly earthy and light. Her tone and enunciation kind of reminds us of a mellower Zaki Ibrahim.

A couple weeks ago, Emma released her Heart Cries EP, a five track EP of fluttery, flowy music to pick up the mood of anyone’s day. The fifth track is actually a Tall Black Guy remix of “Sunshine,” and is the most upbeat tune on the easygoing album. We love it all, though. Watch the video for the title track after the jump and stream the entire EP below!

New Track: Zaki Ibrahim – “Something In The Water”

Love this lady. Zaki Ibrahim’s music instantly left its mark on us back when we heard her Iqra In Orange debut, which is criminally slept on. “Something In The Water” is a dubbed out soulful house tune laced with Zaki’s mesmeric vocals.

Word is that the next album, Every Opposite, is in the works, too! Giddy can’t begin to describe how we feel.
