The catalogue keeps on growing and increasing in depth. And since we last touched base, we added UK based Brownswood Recordings artists Ben Westbeech and Heritage Orchestra's full length CDs. Plus an exciting new artist from Los Angeles, Holly Palmer's soon-to-be released CD can be heard via our Jukebox now. Some of you might recognize her from Gnarls Barkley's live shows. Other additions include more music from the excellent Kemado label, featuring up-and-coming prog rock bands The Sword and Vietnam. Keep checking back as there will be more scintillating news to come.

For over fifteen years Giant Step has been a destination for the discovery of great new music and sounds. We have built our reputation on it. With this success and our unique relationship with artists, the next logical step was for us to set up a music supervision and licensing department at the company. This page will serve as a place where music supervisors, advertising agencies, film companies, directors and others can come and find Giant Step endorsed music for projects, including catalog from Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly, Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Label, And David Byrne's Luaka Bop. Our service will not only introduce you to the music but also help you clear it for usage. All the tracks chosen are easy to clear, plus we will be adding new music weekly so keep coming back to check up on us.

Gustav Ejstes's story begins like a fairytale. He first moved to his mother's farm situated deep in the woods of Smaland where his interest for Swedish folk music manifested and intensified. After his daily tasks at the farm, he worked all night long in his music studio down in his grandmother's basement. The music that he created became more and more his own, and it wasn't long before rumors spread in the Swedish countryside about Dungen's willful 'folkrockpsych'. His friend Stefan Kery's record company Subliminal Sounds released Dungen's first recordings as a vinyl-only album in 2001 which was praised by underground connoisseurs all over the world. Soon the majors were knocking at the door which resulted in three CD singles and the album Stadsvandringar (2002) which received great attention in Swedish media.

Their newest album Ta Det Lugnt, which roughly translates into English as 'Grab The Calm' which perfectly sums up Dungen's sound. Its immediacy drives you to get involved, but there's also such a laid-back, hippy vibe to the whole thing. This is the 3rd and most astounding album from the young and talented Swedish multi-instrumentalist Gustav Ejstes AKA Dungen. It is the long awaited follow up to his two previous highly acclaimed albums, and this recording showcases the ultimate psychprogpopfolkrock this side of Elephant's Memory, The Stone Roses and Pentangle. Ta Det Lugnt is a beautiful musical trip out into the Swedish forests and back again.

Internationally acclaimed artist Jhelisa Anderson was born in Jackson, Mississippi. Her father was a gospel radio announcer. The Anderson family was a singing family, with Jhelisa's father on the piano and organ. She began her career in 1990 in London with the UK band Soul Family Sensation, releasing the album New Wave on One Little Indian. With lablemates The Shamen, Jhelisa then recorded two top ten hit singles "Love Sex and Intelligence" and "Phorever People," earning Jhelisa a platinum album with The Shamen. She also guested on Bjork's Debut album.

In 1994, after developing into an accomplished solo artist, singing, writing, and producing under her first name Jhelisa, she released her first album Galactica Rush on Dorado Records, followed two years later by Language Electric, which were both critically acclaimed. Shortly after she recorded with Bryan Ferry, Courtney Pine, Massive Attack, Chaka Khan, and Da Lata. Touring in the UK, Europe and Japan, Jhelisa shared the bill with the legendary James Brown (R.I.P.), The Roots, Michael Franti and Roy Ayers. Besides her musical activities, Jhelisa was featured in the Italian film "The Protagonist" starring British actress Tilda Swinton and was also one of the featured artists on the Nitin Sawhney tour in 2003, opening up for Sting and culminating in a sold out performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

If you remember the summer of 2003 you may well remember "Musica Feliz" - a gorgeous slice of latin-disco served up by Franco-Portuguese DJ-production trio, Rodamaal on Ben's Watt's Buzzin' Fly label. From early spins at some of the last Lazy Dog and first Buzzin' Fly parties through to beach-front mix compilations throughout that summer and finally a berth on a Cameron Diaz movie, it was a highlight of the year for many on the house underground.

Since then the three members - Alex S, DJ Rocco and Manoo - have become cult figures, mainstays of Buzzin' Fly, and each talented producer/DJs in their own right.

Now they return with a superb low-slung piece of electro-latin entitled "Insomnia" featuring the voice of Portuguese singer, Claudia Franco. Miami was fizzing with talk of the track. Early CDRs have brought 10/10 reactions from underground luminaries such as DJ Deep, Chez Music's Neil Aline, Alix Alvarez and Louie Vega's stablemate, Mr V, who played the tune three times in one night at Cielo recently. A creeping Afro-groove with plaintive wailing acid synths gives way to bloodshot nocturnal pianos and strings and Claudia's tough whispered incantation and urgent refrains. Destined to be a true deep epic, it encapsulates perfectly Buzzin' Fly's tender-tough ethos and is surely a highlight for the label so far.
