One of the most versatile young R&B/soul artists to emerge in quite some time, 19 year-old prodigy Emily King teams up with the King of New York on her debut single, bringing a much-needed reality check to dance-floors everywhere.
New York native Emily King may be just 19 years old, but she is a throwback to another era. The offspring of two internationally renowned jazz singers – one Italian, one African-American – the music on her debut album, 'East Side Story,' which is due out in September on J Records, shows her committed to finding the common ground between rock and soul, black and white, hip-hop party music and songs of protest. Coming of age in the Lower East Side, King’s musical influences mirror the diversity of her surroundings: from the Beatles, Sarah Vaughan and Neil Young, to Nas, Radiohead and Michael Jackson. East Side Story brings together King's singer-songwriter foundation with soul-drenched vocals and fluid hip-hop beats to create a unique sonic blend, featuring contributions from notables including producer Salaam Remi, Marsha from acclaimed rap duo Floetry, and none other than the late Notorious B.I.G.
