News - Chico Hamilton to Guest at the Beacons Gala

Chico Hamilton to Guest at the Beacons Gala

Posted by Michael Yu, Feb 15, 10:10 AM EST

On Monday February 27, 2006, Chico will be a Special Guest at The New School University's Jazz & Contemporary Music Program "Beacons Gala", where he will be presenting his old friend Roy Haynes with a "Beacons in Jazz" Award.

The Beacons recognize living jazz musicians whose extraordinary talent has significantly contributed to the evolution of jazz, and the "Beacons Gala" raises scholarship money for students in the New School Jazz Program. MC'ing the evening will be CBS 2 News Anchor Maurice DuBois, with entertainment from Bill Cosby, and this year's event will be honoring 2006 Beacons awardees Ed Bradley, Barry Harris, Roy Haynes, and Jon Hendricks. This year's "Beacons Gala" will be taking place at The Grand Ballroom at The Pierre Fifth Avenue at 61st Street, NYC with cocktail reception at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:15 PM, and performance and awards presentation at 8 PM. Chico is himself a 1999 Beacons Honoree.
