Giant Steps Drops In On Brookville

Posted by Bobbi Meyer, Jun 21, 02:10 PM EST

Brookville’s Andy Chase, of the band Ivy, has done it again. Three years after the critically acclaimed ‘Wonderfully Nothing’ Chase has teamed up with an impressive collection of artists and musicians to produce Brookville’s second album, ‘Life in the Shade,’ which hit stores earlier this month.

Fresh from the release of their second album, Brookville prepares to hit the road, and Giant Step caught up with the band earlier this week for a listen. In an intimate studio in Brooklyn, where the band has been practicing, we got the opportunity to sit in on a closed practice set. Chase, the portrait of an ultimate rock star, captured my full attention as he crooned songs from the new album as well as some favorites from the band’s first album. We didn’t get a chance to rap with the boys much following the performance, as they were off to Los Angeles to do a full electric set on the morning show at KCRW as well as a show at the Hotel Café.

The band looks to begin touring in late August or early September, but if you’re lucky, you can catch them live in New York before then on July 3rd at Joe’s Pub. And keep your eyes peeled on their Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/brookville). After playing “Nothing’s Meant To Last,” Andy mentioned possibly running a contest for an audience member to come up and sing the female vocal part on that song with the band.
