“The hottest motherf*%er out there” according to XLR8R, Quantic is set to release his fourth solo album, ‘An Announcement To Answer’ on July 25th that will include guest artists Noelle Scaggs from The Rebirth, Ohmega Watts and Puerto Rican percussionist Tempo. A diverse record that showcases his broad musical palette of hip hop, jazz, funk and soul while still clearly being a Quantic record, this looks to be his best yet.
Getting time to briefly sit down with the man himself, according to Quantic, ‘An Announcement To Answer’ will showcase a “deeper” and “more mature” sound. Whether it is related to just time itself or his recent travels to Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Ethiopia, which much of the record is influenced from, ‘An Announcement To Answer’ is certainly a more mature album that once again reveals Quantic’s healthy obsession/passion for discovering new music. However, with this obsession, according to Quantic, it was surprising to learn that volume wise, his collection is relatively sane with him throwing out old records as he gets new ones (although, he did admit to having a lot of 45’s.) But what about mp3s, especially with his travels? Serato, Vinyl? His response, “I currently use Serato, but it is more an extension of my vinyl collection. I see nothing wrong with it, but realize that some people are frightened of it. It is really how you play and mix tracks and not necessarily what you have.” I couldn’t agree more. As to who he is rooting for in the Worldcup, he doesn’t really keep up, but went with “Brazil.”
In support of his forthcoming album, Quantic will pay a visit to New York City, performing a DJ set on Thursday July 6th, at APT along with DJs Nickodemus (Turntables on the Hudson) and David Trusz (Global Underground). There is also a complimentary Bacardi from 9-10pm if you RSVP by July 5 to rsvp@bigshotmag.com.
