While classical arrangements of modern music has been done before from Radiohead to Metallica, one forthcoming release that seems to take it a step forward is 'Warp Works + Twentieth Century Masters.' Set to be released in September, 'Warp Works + Twentieth Century Masters' finds the London Sinfonietta interpreting the music of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher as well as legends John Cage, Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Edgard Varese and others. See further details below.
-----------------------------------------
Warp + the London Sinfonietta:
Born at London’s Royal Festival Hall on March 10, 2003, The London Sinfonietta/Warp concerts grew out of a shared desire to explore the connection between Warp’s electronic mavericks and the avant-garde 20th century pioneers who were their forebears. New instrumental versions of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin compositions sit side by side with avant-garde classics. This is no crossover – it’s unexpected juxtaposition, in the belief that the different kinds of music shed light on each other.
Warp Works + Twentieth Century Masters:
This double CD set contains music from two collaborations between Warp Records, the London Sinfonietta and the South Bank Centre, performed a year apart – the first at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the South Bank Centre’s 2003 Ether Festival, and the second from a Contemporary Music Network tour which visited Liverpool and Brighton in 2004.
