Following up to 2004's 'Plat Du Jour,' Matthew Herbert is set to return in May 2006 with the album 'Scales.' Featuring vocal contributions from Herbert's longtime collaborator Dani Siciliano, newcomer Neil Thomas, and Dave Okumu of Jade Fox, 'Scales' differs from Herbert's previous release with traditional instruments making a return. However, don't think this means the album won't be unique, for the album's most intriguing aspect comes from an open call to fans made in November 2005. The request: for fans to call a given number and leave a message consisting of a single sound on the answering machine at the other end. The result: the track "Just Once," that features all of the submissions on the track exactly one time. This idea alone leaves me to believe that Herbert is set to deliver another innovative album May 30 on !K7, that both captures the mind and makes us look at music in a slightly different perspective. But don't take my word for it, for we managed to get our hands on one track from Matthew Herbert's forthcoming album, "The Movers And The Shakers."
