The Rapture and DFA Bring Back The Dance

Posted by Kendah El-Ali, Aug 02, 03:02 PM EST

Following up to their infectiously popular Echoes from 2003, The Rapture will release 'Pieces of the People We Love' September 12 in the US on Universal Motown.

Instead of hooking up with DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy and James Murphy for production cues as they did before, the foursome—Luke Jenner (guitar, vocals), Mattie Safter (bass, vocals), Gabe Andruzzi (keyboards, percussion) and Vito Roccoforte (drums)—turned to a little help from their friends Ewan Pearson (Chemical Brothers), Paul Epworth (Bloc Party) and Dangermouse to tweak their album.

The result is something that sounds freakishly identical to their last album-- from the cowbell, to the wailing, to the indie ballads—but this time, with wafts of Brit Rock sensibility, spatterings of pared-down techno, and an odd final two tracks made at the hands of Dangermouse. The long and short of it is that Pieces of the People We Love is a more finely produced chapter in foursome’s generic flirting between live and dance music. But hey, if the first wheel was so widely successful—why reinvent it?

Listen to “Get Myself Into It” (which releases August 21) on their MySpace page in the meanwhile.

Here’s the tracklist:

1. 1st Gear
2. The Devil
3. The Sound
4. WAYUH
5. Gotta Get Myself Into It
6. Live in Sunshine
7. Don Gon Doin It
8. People
9. Calling Me

And while Goldsworthy and Murphy might not be salient on The Rapture’s new album, don’t fret. There’s more punk and disco to be had. The second chapter of their DFA Remixes releases October 3 on DFA/ Astralwerks. Taking their certain, magical way blurring the lines between esoteric, dance sensibility and blatant mainstream indulgence, the duo have managed to make Trent Reznor seem disco cool. And—in a timely act of peace for the Middle East-- they brought back a little Chromeo. A 12-inch with instrumental remixes will also release alongside the CD:
