The Roots And Moby To Play At MoveOn Charity Event

Stepping up within 48 hours of last year's Hurrican Katrina impact, MoveOn launched HurricaneHousing.org, a website that enabled people to donate an extra room to stranded evacuees. Within a week, over 160,000 people had offered up their homes, and within 2 weeks, the program had safely housed around 30,000 evacuees.

To make sure these stories were not forgotten, Palace Press International put together a book featuring a series of photographs of the evacuees and housing donors from the Hurricane Housing program and extensive interviews edited into first person narratives. Titled 'It Takes a Nation: How Strangers Became Family in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina,' all proceeds from the book will go to ACORN New Orleans.

To help launch the book, ColorOfChange.org will co-host a special event next Thursday (August 24th. 7pm to 9pm) at NY's Crobar (530 W. 28th St.) with stories from the book, music from the Roots and Moby, and readings by actors like Julia Stiles. Tickets are available here.
