News - Dan The Automator To Produce Video Game Soundtrack

Dan The Automator To Produce Video Game Soundtrack

Posted by Michael Yu, Aug 22, 10:32 AM EST

A few years ago, it might have seemed strange for well known musicians to contribute to the soundtrack of a video game, with perhaps the first time this happened being when Nine Inch Nails scored the music for the genre breaking game, Quake. But with the ever increasing cross over between the music, film and gaming industries, we see music from well known artists being played in commercials, musicians being actors, actors being musicians and of course musicians contributing to the music of video games.

One game franchise that has been doing just that is 2K Sports. But the difference is, instead of enlisting the help of big name artists, they have sought out music from independent labels like Matador Records and Sub Pop. For their latest upcoming release, NBA 2K7, 2K is getting help from Gorillaz, Deltron, and Handsome Boy Modeling School producer, Dan The Automator to craft the soundtrack, which will be released as a stand alone release on Decon Records. The 13 track set will feature guests Ghostface, E-40, Slim Thug, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Rhymefest and members of both Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5.

While nothing has been confirmed, Dan the Automator is hoping to make a few appearances in conjunction with the game and soundtrack, but is currently working on the second album from Deltron 3030.
