Seems like every other week you hear about labels being consolidated into other labels, being bought, or having financial woes. While this doesn't usually stun us when it deals with major labels, it does when it is an independent label and one as forward thinking as UK label, Output Recordings.
Having released singles and albums by MU, Four Tet, Colder, DK7, LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture, and more, Output Recordings has officially closed its doors. Citing financial reasons and the daily obstacles of running a label, according to a statement by label owner Trevor Jackson to Pitchfork, "Running a record label started as fun and ended up as a nightmare...I never wanted to have all my passion and enthusiasm knocked out of me. But somehow it's happened. I simply wanted to showcase exciting, experimental, and forward-thinking music with individuality and personality." And showcasing exciting experimental and forward-thinking music is exactly what they did. Here's to Output Recordings for introducing to the world some great music.
