UK soul/jazz singer Amy Winehouse is being tipped to record the theme song for the next installment of the James Bond franchise. "We've been in contact with the James Bond people and hopefully that'll come off in the future," Winehouse says.
With Chris Cornell of Audioslave (and formerly Soundgarden) having delivered his effort for the latest film, Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as the first new Bond in a decade, interest is high in the revamped spy thriller. Cornell's current effort bombed with critics, the Times calling the song 'appalling', demanding producers to bring in another big-name artist for the second of Craig's Bond outings. Other major music acts to have recorded the theme song include Madonna, Duran Duran and Shirley Bassey. Amy’s follow up to her late 2003 debut album, Back To Black recently released on October 30, 2006, shot to #3 in the UK charts. If Amy’s Bond theme showcases the quality of her previous vocal works, the producers will have the comeback hit they’re craving.
