I've never really been one for having an album remixed mainly for two reasons (a) The remix album never is as good as the original or (b) Not enough care is put into the remixes to truly make it standout. Instead what usually seems to end up happening is a regurgitation of the original without anything new taking place or even sounding like they remixed a track without having the splits. However, two remixed albums that really changed my thinking is Herb Albert's 'Rewhipped' as well as Bloc Party's 'Silent Alarm Remixed.'
The next remix album that will probably further change my thinking is from Jamie Lidell, who is set to release a remixed version of 'Multiply' titled 'Multiply Additions.' An outstanding album on its own, Jamie has enlisted friends from Luke Vibert to Herbert, Four Tet, Freeform Five and Feist collaborator Gonzales, to re-imagine his perplexingly soulful tunes as their own. A tall order, I guess we'll have to wait and see if these tracks end up truly being "re-imagined" or just "re-hashed." I'm crossing my fingers.
