Broadcasting live from the Kodak Theatre in LA February 25th, the Grammy Awards have just listed their nominees for this year in 24 categories. Up for Best Motion Picture Of The Year are fate-inspired Babel, gangster epic The Departed, perspective-reversed war film Letters From Iwo Jima, the hilarious Little Miss Sunshine, and critic-exalted The Queen. Actors Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond) , Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson) , Peter O’Toole (Venus) , Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) , and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) have been recognized for their lead performances. Best Actress nods went to a range of roles including empowered women as in Volver starring Penelope Cruz, The Queen with Helen Mirren, and The Devil Wears Prada’s Meryl Streep; psychopathic obsessive as in Notes On A Scandal played by Judi Dench; and the ordinary housewife as seen in Little Children led by Kate Winslet. In an even more diverse division were Babel, Letters From Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, Pan’s Labyrinth, and The Queen for Best Original Screenplay. You can catch the best of the best being awarded in 33 days live on ABC.
