On March 26th, Matthew Herbert will release Score (!K7), a compilation showcasing several of his film soundtrack productions – many which have gone unreleased and even a couple that got rejected as demos. Included in the 17-song CD is also a ballet written for performance art piece "Set Boundaries." Herbert is a true believer in electronic and found-sound music as more than simply dance floor wallpaper. And aptly in his consummate style, Matthew's sampling concepts for these tracks are in accord with his infamous "Personal Contract for the Composition Of Music (PCCOM) (Incorporating the Manifesto of Mistakes)": in his demo for Manolete he "used the sound of blood and hair, dust and cloth, and even the bull itself to generate percussion, and all the sounds for "Set Boundaries" were "made out of bullets from RAF Tornado shells that were used in Iraq, and from Israeli bullets. I just wanted to reinforce the idea that national boundaries are defended with ruthless violence." Following his 2006 success with Scale, Score promises a less accessible and more cinematic set of compositions, reaffirming the image of Matthew Herbert, a music genius.
