Anthony Wilson (better known as Tony) of Manchester’s Hacienda club and Factory Records fame recently had his right kidney removed when an excessive deleterious growth was discovered in the organ. Best known for managing and spotlighting seminal bands the Happy Mondays, New Order, and Joy Division, the 56 year old legend will begin supplementing his current cancer drug treatment with chemotherapy next week at Withington’s Christie Hospital. Glorified on the silver screen in Michael Winterbottom’s semi-fictional 24 Hour Party People, Tony’s immeasurable impact on the UK and international music scene has continued to modern day with the 4th reincarnation of Factory Records, F4, and his Xfm Manchester and BBC Radio Manchester shows. We wish him the very best of luck in the months – nay, years – to come.
