Last week, Ozomati announced a competition entitled "Make Your Own Ozomatli Video Contest." Due by the 15th of March, the winning video for their new single "City Of Angels" off of Don’t Mess With The Dragon (released April 3rd) will score $2000 and a screening at a USC symposium featuring the band. Surely the band name (Aztec for monkey), album title, single title, song, and stock live video clips should provide enough visual symbols to conjure a quick 3 minute video. They’re allowing remixes, edits and bootleg blends to be submitted, so there are plenty of opportunities to be creative in the audio realm, too.
The talk, to be held March 27th at the University of Southern California, will be on "music's relationship to the neighborhoods of Los Angeles, activist/politics/social change and new ideas of community in the digital age," which may or may not prompt you to produce something in that vein. Ozomatli themselves will handpick the 5 winning videos to their new funk-rock-rap track, so be sure to have fun with the contest: labors of love always prevail.
