News - Jay Kay Breaks World Record And Deal With Label

Jay Kay Breaks World Record And Deal With Label

Posted by Jay Yee, Mar 01, 10:28 AM EST

The heart and soul of Jamiroquai, Jay Kay is calling it quits with his current record company. Spurring the decision, his ex-label, Sony BMG had slowly been souring his deal over the years. "I haven't been happy there for a while," Jay confessed to NME. "I've had some ups and downs but in the end the downs were just too many. When we talked about me leaving, I jumped at the chance." Nasty rumors that Jay was leaving the music business spread through yesterday's Mirror were thankfully quenched by news on his official and MySpace sites.

In other record breaking news, Jay also set six world records while performing a Gig In The Sky, which was a show held 37,000 feet in the air to 200 contest winners. In describing his feats, Jay said, "basically the two of them here are the highest concert in the world, the fastest concert in the world at the altitude of 30,000 feet and the highest recording of a concert and the fastest recording of a concert and there's a couple more but I can't remember what they are." Not that it matters to Jay – with over 15 years in the business, he’s just in it for the music.
