Sara Bareilles' Performance At Hiro Ballroom, NYC

On Monday (3/12), one of the warmer nights this week, LA's singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles graced Hiro Ballroom, NYC with a special opening performance for Aqualung. On a nationwide tour to promote her sophomore album Little Voice, which will be released this summer by Epic Records, Sara admitted her love for the Big Apple, openly regretting the length of her short stay in the city – and it wasn't hard to understand why either. For a relatively unknown, albeit up-and-coming artist, Sara's audience was well-dressed and quite eager for her new material. Undoubtedly due to the power of the internet, the venue was predominantly filled with fans who had come especially to see her, and not the headlining act.

Ms. Bareilles commenced with her less poppy songs, flexing just the bare essentials: her piano and her voice. And what was immediately apparent was her powerful, emotive voice. By the time she played her ironically sassy single "Love Song," she'd transformed into a younger, fresher Norah Jones. Her set peaked with a cheeky cover of The Beatles' "Oh! Darling," and then it was over all too quickly; it felt as ephemeral as her stay in New York.
